Lloyd’s Register (LR) has been appointed as the classification society for Australia’s Hunter Class Frigate Program, the largest surface ship project in the nation’s defence history. Through Hunter, BAE Systems Australia’s shipbuilding business, ASC Shipbuilding, will deliver nine anti-submarine warfare frigates, known as the Hunter class, to the Royal Australian Navy.

While construction of the first ship is due to start in December 2022, a Senate estimates hearing heard on Monday the government was considering changes to the timeline. The company building Australia's $45 billion frigate program has warned there could be delays, but the federal government is yet to decide on any changes to the construction schedule. British company BAE Systems, which was selected in June 2018 to build nine frigates in Adelaide, has advised the government the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shortage of engineers.

BAE Systems to design Skyborg drone for the US Air Force. The $400 million contract is “open” in terms of delivery and quantity.
